Governor-General and
State Governors


From top: Their excellences Bashir, Jackson and Bryce, state governors of NSW, SA and Queensland. All will be eligible to be Honorary President, if the model is adopted.


The Honorary President Model retains the office of Governor-General and each of the State Governors. The only difference is they are appointed through the Honorary President instead of the King or Queen.

These exemplary men and women continue their critical role as our constitutional umpires, making sure that governments follow the rules and respect democratic principles.

They also continue their ceremonial roles, upholding community values as well as uniting and developing the great tapestry that is modern Australian society.

And for our Army, Navy and Air Force, the Governor-General continues to be their commander-in-chief.

But will the Honorary President overshadow these roles? On the contrary, the Governor-General and six Governors will be in a better position than ever to do their work well.
